About Us
I opened Thomaston Feed (in the early days we were called ‘The Outpost Supply
Co.) in Dec of 1992. At that time I was a H.S. Physics and Environmental Science
teacher as well as training hunting dogs and breeding Labrador Retrievers (AKC
Registered “Labmates Kennels”). I wanted to continue in a dog food and supply
business, one that did not, or so I thought, would demand as much of my time. My
wife and I were raising two young boys and the demands of my profession(s) gave
me very little time to spend with my young family.
I finally decided in 1997 to leave my teaching position to devote my energies to
my business and my family.
To date I have continued to breed Labs and my love for them continues to grow.
My family of dogs has grown from my “dog of a lifetime” Drake to include 3 of
his sons (Slate, Dash & Timber) as well as Cider, Lace and Sage, our 3
“daughters”.
I soon changed the name of my store to Thomaston Feed and Grain in respect of (
Thomaston Feed & Supply) the local feed store that was located in the same
building since the early 1900’s.
In 1997 we suffered a devastating fire knocking us down for about 5 months.
During that tumultuous time I worked out of a 40’ storage trailer using
flashlights for lighting and a ceramic heater to keep us warm through the cold
winter nights.
Soon after that my wife and young son’s came down to help me rebuild my
business. I also asked my nephew Brian and sister in law, Vicki to help out.
Together with our 7 labs we are truly a family run business.
The early days were trying times, $50 a day in sales, 9 years later we are
honored and privileged to be the largest holistic dog and cat food business in
the Northeast!
If you need any information on holistic dog or cat supplements or foods we are
the store for you. To date, we carry 15 of the 22 best of the best dog foods as
described in Whole Dog Journal (2005).
